The Engineering Research Center (ERC) for Advancing Innovation in Renewable Co-pRoducts and Aviation Fuel Technologies (AIRCRAFT) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Generation 4 ERC with an innovative engineered system that will facilitate the transition of the national and global aviation industry from legacy fuels, chemicals, and materials to performance-advantaged; agricultural and forestry-based sustainable alternatives.

Vision

AIRCRAFT’s convergent research, engineering and workforce development, and innovation ecosystem components will pave the way for the development of a vibrant circular aviation bioeconomy, reducing and ultimately eliminating its dependence on legacy chemicals, materials, and fuels by 2050.

Mission

AIRCRAFT will 1) advances the sustainable design and manufacturing of agricultural and forestry-based chemicals, materials, and fuels for the aviation industry, 2) drive innovation to support a secure source of clean energy for the aviation industry, and 3) strengthen U.S. global competitiveness.
